I want to take my girlfriend to Amsterdam in October or November; firstly does anyone know if this is nice time of year to visit?

We are both very broke at the moment so looking to get there nice and cheaply :) We live in London and I was wondering what are our best options are. Is it best to fly straight to Amsterdam or better to fly to Schipol and then get the train? Also, has anyone tried getting a ferry there? If you have, how was the ferry?

Thank you muchly

There is usually a 2 for one deal to Amsterdam around october time on the ferry
went recently from Glasgow, flew KLM to Schipol. You would really just need to keep an eye on prices. you could try the other airlines too - not sure which ones fly from london. There is a train link from the airport right into the centre every few minutes. It cost 4 euros and took 20 minutes. We stayed at the rho hotel right at dam square - was very reasonable. Rooms were basic but spotless and breakfast was great. Cant advise how the weather would be but loved it and would def go back. If looking for city break, also enjoyed prague in october - we even got sunshine!
Firstly Amsterdam Airport is called Schipol. It is a 15 minute train journey to the centre. Cost is about €5 each and you can't get much closer than that. You can fly Easyjet from either Luton, Stansted or Gatwick, for less that £40 each way. Check out their web site and look for the cheapest deals. Select "Flexible Dates" to get the cheapest flights. Watch out for the extras though.
You could also try Jet2 - not sure where they fly from.
Sorry joannie10 - failed to read all of your post. At least we agreed on things!!
