Or the North Wales coast (Rhyl, Colwyn Bay or even Llandudno). All 3 are seaside towns.
There is a decent road along the north coast so you could easily get to any of those 3 towns.
Rhyl is a sort of mini Blackpool (but years since I have been there)
Llandudno is nice, with plenty to do. Lovely wide prom, a pier, the Great Orme (huge hill with a cable car to the top).

Why not do a short round trip? Llangollen is lovely and has the world heritage site of Froncysyctle(not sure of spelling!) aqueduct nearby, Wrexham is a nice enough town and has the tomb of Elihu Yale founder of Yale university in its churchyard and from Wrexham it's easy to get to the coast via the A483 towards Chester then a left turn onto the A55 straight to the Welsh coast. Hope this helps. Another idea is to explore the lovely moorland and hills of North Wales?
