the london eye
my husband is keen to go on this but im scared of heights. i see that each pod has glass that surrounds you, is it the floor too? i think i may be ok if other people sit around me and im squashed in a bit but i obviously cant guarantee that. has anyone who is scared of heights been on it? if so how did you find it? does it move fast/slowly and how many times does it go round?

Here's a side view of the pod, sorry but not many places to hide... I couldn't do it.

Its great !! You will feel safe, don't worry. It moves very slowly. I used my tesco vouchers so went for free !!! You won't be squashed though, plenty of room to walk about, even to sit down in the middle if you prefer. Good view of Buckingham Palace ! It only goes round once and then you have to get off. But it doesn;t stop - moves at the same speed all the time, easy to get on and off though.
Yes I hate heights with a vengence, but it goes really slow and the floor is not see through. There's a long metal/wooden seat in the centre as well if you want to sit but to be honest the panoramic view is so awesome that I stood right by the window to look.

I'm petrified of fire escapes, stairs where there's no backing or when you can see right through them!!!

if you go at peak periods you'll probably have a dozen or more people in the pods... which should make you feel safe but then you won't see anything. Most people stand around the walls and look at the view but some sit down. It moves round very slowly - not like a ferris wheel at all - takes about 20-30 minutes per trip, and you go round just the once and then get off ( it doesn't stop but moves so slowly this is not dangerous). The floor isn't glass.
I'm not a great fan of heights but I'm okay if solidly enclosed, and I loved it.

thoroughly recommend it, it moves so slowly that you are barely aware that it is moving. If you are one of those people who are pathologically afraid of heights then it would be a bad idea. You have to get into the pods whilst they are moving(slowly), If you are on crutches or in a wheelchair they may stop it ( not sure about this but since wheelchair users have right of access to all public places they must manage it somehow) If you aren't with a booked group turn up before 9AM and you should get on quite quickly .
