Why do they have those strips of material laid across the bottom half of the beds in hotel rooms? Do they serve any particular purpose? I can't think of one.
I think this has been one of those 'design' thingies. It's a bit like a long scarf, isn't it? Utterly useless - perhaps if it is correctly in place it gives anyone checking up a quick visual that the bed's been made up. But really I don't think they serve any purpose.
As most hotel bed linen is white nowadays (for ease of cleaning) a white bed can make a room look a little cold therefore these 'throws' as they are called are intended to warm up the room.
