I live very close to the Stadium and even strolling along I can overtake the vehicles trying to get away! Come out of the Stadium at the North end, near the roundabout where Tesco's is and turn left up Whitton Dene. Then turn right at the end of Whitton Dene, at it's junction with Whitton Road and even I can get to Hounslow Station in five minutes from there, and I believe it could be less crowded than either Richmond or Twickenham.
