this mental asylum is abandoned in Surrey and would very much like to go and give it a visit! i hear you can just walk in and explore but it sounds a bit too good to be true! anyone live near and know anything about this place?
i hear the inmates stuff is still there and beds, dentist chairs and even a padded cell is all there!

And also that these people where very ill. Mental illness is just the same as any other illness, but for the majority of time it is often treated by the general public as a freak show! How would you feel if your parents had been held there against there will, as often people were? Would you like people wandering in looking in voyeuristic way at there last possessions? Please have some respect.
woooooooah chill out. i understand all that. but you could also ask the question why do some people visit the Somme battlefield? people have an interest in it. same with hiroshima, i visited Japan basically only wanting to go there, original building that was bombed it there, lots and alots of people died, yet epople visit there as they are interested and becuase they want to learn about the place first.
you could try googling 'west park asylum', or this link:

By the way people in prison are "inmates" people in hospitals are patients.
I suggest learning about the running of these places and the abuse of patients on the web or a library first.
I have experience of such a place and can say first hand there is nothing to see. Normal people visit battle grounds to show there respect. What reason have you in visiting a hospital? Perhaps a running commentary about abuse of patients. Or a video showing everyone waiting in line naked for a bath in the same water. Or may be a cd of the constant sound of screaming may satisfy your morbid needs?
Best having a walk in the park really, It may clear your head!!

lol im sorry you feel that way 'itsmefolks', i have read up about this asylum and the fact that the patients were treated very harsh indeed. i do apologise for calling them inmates though, i was typing quite fast and ive always had trouble in spelling that word.
but i have quite interested in abandoned places and there are many other sites that people have made commenting on abandoned asylums and their interest in them, so its not just me.
the jews were treated bad at concentration camps and people are fasinated with them, yes again they go to pay respect. but im not going to be running around the asylum acting like a child. visiting somewhere that has a dark history completely fasinates me. and for that i will not apologise for.

my cousin is a photographer so i was going to take her along with me as she loves adbandoned urban places so should be some good experience for her!
it is quite interesting, there is another website about the asylum where a nurse has given her account of when she worked there from 1960's through to the 80's.
the way these people were treated was pretty bad actually, but the history of the place is just fasinating, ya should take a look!

I suffer from mental health problems and spent time in a psychiatric hospital. The main building had some long, creepy corridors and I can only imagine how creepy the place was back in the days when such a place was badly run and cruel to people whose only crime was that they were ill.
I am not too sure that I fancy visiting a building without toilets that were operational though. I always need to go spend a penny.
Enjoy your trip.
