Going to Canada from the UK in the next few weeks.  Are there any wise words about using laptop computer equipment - in particular, do I need specialist transformers to adjust to US & Canadian power supply?

You shouldn't need a transformer or converter as most laptop power supplies can cope with a range 110-240V 50/60Hz. Check on the power supply, it should be written on there, to confirm this.
