The older you get, the more cranky you get.

Definitely. There are far more things to moan about now. In fact, my husband has turned into Victor Meldrew. Miserable git!

Thay made me laugh tilly :○)

Your husband is to be congratulated on attaining high office, Tilly.😠

I think that there are some members of this site who were born as little Victor Meldrews!

Ha ha ha love it^^

I think older folk form two basic groups. Those who manage to chill out and nothing really gets to them because it isn't important enough to get upset about; and those who get sick of putting up with the carp they have been putting up with all their life, see everything going down the drain as society becomes more and more ridiculous chucking away anything good, criticising anything from the past, and introducing more utter nonsense, and railing against anyone pointing out the idiocy; and consequently get a lot more cranky.

I think I'm firmly in the second camp. It may not be the healthiest option but I can't change my subconscious views that make me who I am.

Very good post OG and all very truthfull.

That's a very honest post OG. I would like to think I am mostly in the former camp but I stray into the latter increasingly easily....so perhaps supporting nicebloke1's observation 😬

From what I have seen, the middle class people seem to be much more cranky than working class people who seem much more cheerful (probably because they are not so materialistic and have their priorities right)

Mr Alba is not happy unless he's mumbling and moaning about summat, I tend to ignore him, life's too short.

Same here, Alba. I just switch off my hearing aids when he starts.

Second camp with OG.......Firmly.

I think you get tired of smoothing things over and decide to say what you think - not a bad thing.

I'm not sure if i posted the following some time back, put it was on tv, someone was interviewing a very old lady who lived alone. They asked what advice she would give to anyone who wanted to lead a happy and healthy life? She said KEEP away from other people.

My mum is 104 soon shes not set foot outside the house, ( garden yes) in about 15 years now, and shes alway cheerfull and even cracking jokes now and again, albeit the same ones.

So I do wonder if the lady interviewed on tv got it right.

Question Author

Its the reason i asked the question in the first place.^^^

Tilly, it keeps you sane lol.

NB, you could well be on to something, I'm restricted in my mobility so it's Mr Alba who shops etc. He sees human life and society milling about when he's out. Him - cranky, me, not so much.

I think the thing that irritates me the most is the way technology changes too quickly for elder folk to keep up with things.

And that kind of change normally means we as society don't mix as much. Where do I start, the internet and smart phones, have changed the face of society.

We no longer use banks, shops, post offices etc.

Ok maybe some shops, not all but as a human race we are very different to only 30 years ago.

This gives a reason to be frustrated with life. I grew up watching Tomorrows World, and thinking technology will make life so easy for humans, but if anything all its done is achieve more stress.

This list is endless, some establishments don't even accept cash anymore. I could write a book about this really. I'm just spewing out random things we have lost. Public phone boxes.

Banks, post offices.

Thinking about it its more than likely 20 years since mum as been out the house. I did ask her a few weeks back if she gets bored? A big fat NO was the answer.

Question Author

Very true also 20.36 it is a right pain when they keep on changing things.

As I sit here listening to Mr BM chuntering and making pithy remarks at the TV, I think the answer is "yes".
