Just found a retailer near to me that sells ready to eat cooked pigeon. Always up for trying new foods but just wondered before I buy one if anyone else has ate pigeon. I imagine it would have the taste and texture of chicken?
Thanks
I have tasted wild wood pigeon, in the past, the breast meat is the only part worth eating, you get two plump medallions per bird and I'd say its more akin to liver or fillet steak in taste and texture.
Nice though, how to describe gamey - a bit more peppery and a hint of mushroom, I love pheasant (and game at large) if[i and a very big [i] if] it is not overcooked and properly rested.
Thanks for answers guys, so its a 'gamey' taste then?
Will have to try it for myself I guess. Never had 'game' meat before.
Thanks for replies, will look forward to trying it.
Thanks again all.
I really dislike the taste of game. To me, the best way to describe it is it tastes like the smell of farmyards or goats cheese. Or even dirty dishcloths. Very rank.
i haven't had it by itself, so it's hard to say - i have it in a game pie with rabbit and pheasant or venison. You'll definitely have to give it a try nailit, let us know what you think
