Just found a retailer near to me that sells ready to eat cooked pigeon. Always up for trying new foods but just wondered before I buy one if anyone else has ate pigeon. I imagine it would have the taste and texture of chicken?
Thanks

I have a few dead ones you can try, Nailit. Will five be enough?

Thats very kind of you Tilly, I'll get back to you when I know what others think of the taste ;-)
I have tasted Wood Pigeon. It tastes gamey. Stronger than chicken.
Quite gamey nails not much to eat on em. Unless its off Burslem town hall. Then it as big as a turkey and tastes of diesel and coal dust.
That retailer isn't anywhere near Burntwood he / she ?

I have no idea what pigeon tastes like though.
I have tasted wild wood pigeon, in the past, the breast meat is the only part worth eating, you get two plump medallions per bird and I'd say its more akin to liver or fillet steak in taste and texture.
Nice though, how to describe gamey - a bit more peppery and a hint of mushroom, I love pheasant (and game at large) if[i and a very big [i] if] it is not overcooked and properly rested.
I've never tasted it but you often see it on Masterchef etc. Even when cooked it looks really deep pink.

Togo, nah mate, not Burslem. These pigeons are the finely bred ones of Trentham Lakes shops. Different class of bird altogether.

Thanks for answers guys, so its a 'gamey' taste then?
Will have to try it for myself I guess. Never had 'game' meat before.
Thanks for replies, will look forward to trying it.
Thanks again all.
You won't have to stuff them as they will be full of bread!!!
tofu ?
I really dislike the taste of game. To me, the best way to describe it is it tastes like the smell of farmyards or goats cheese. Or even dirty dishcloths. Very rank.
i haven't had it by itself, so it's hard to say - i have it in a game pie with rabbit and pheasant or venison. You'll definitely have to give it a try nailit, let us know what you think
