I want light brown NOT light red!

I have dark brown hair and I think that either a light/med brown would look good on me..but when I die it light brown it turns orange. People say that if you have dark hair and want a lighter color, to bleach it first then it will come out better. But when I bleach my hair it gets dried out and it would be even more dry if I die it after I bleach it and also im afraid that my hair will get a greenish tint after I bleach it blonde then die it light brown( I've heard of people who had that happen to them) GRR I dunno..Is it possible for me to be a lighter brown?!?!

my sister who is a hairdresser, said she sometimes mixes different colours to get the shade she wants. i have seen her do it many times and i must say the results are always impressive. that's an idea maybe you could try if you feel inventive, are you doing it yourself?
