From what i remember it was exactly OPPOSITE. The BMA always had the interest of the junior doctors and GPs, but couldn't care a toss about the Consultants, so, the consultants set up the breakaway group Independent Hospital and Consultants and Specialists Association (IHCSA)
Nobody had sympathy for the consultants....arrogant, rude, overpaid, God like......etc..etc BUT Barbara Castle gave them what they wanted...Private Practice in the NHS.
