I still do my £2 a week Naomi, but its from habit I suppose.

I never thought the organisers where greedy, they took less than 1%. Anyway, I stopped doing it when it went to 59 numbers and the already long odds tripled. I originally got caught up in the excitement and was doing 2 lines twice a week by SO. Doubling the price a few years back nearly made me stop. The increase to 59 sealed it finally. I think they have been very foolish with these measure and could kill it off. I now put the money into premium bonds, no interest but I still have the cash and who know may win something. The lottery is in essence a voluntary tax on the poor.

depends on what constitutes "poor", what I mean is anyone who has to work and thus would like to win enough so they don't have to, and that would be nearly all of lottery sales.

TTT is partially correct here.

......the ideal demographic of a Lottery customer, especially the scratchcards are poor paid, badly educated, people. Not entirely of course, but if Camelot had to rely on educated, in-work people, it would have gone out of business a long time ago.

look at it another way, how many sales are to people on less than £50k income? Nearly all of them I would say.

The NL is just an 'idiot tax'. I bet most of the people,who play are the same ones who go radio rental about their electricity bill going up by £10 a quarter.

Well I buy a ticket every week and do not fit into that demograph -its just a bit of fun and if I ever did win a huge amount I would buy an air ambulance.(as well as an Astin Martin and indoor swimming pool) I have, however, seen plenty of people in our local village co-op buying £5 scratch cards that should have been spending it on groceries for their kids.
