I have recently decided to start a business and therefor need a business bank account. I know that they will question my credit rating. This could be a problem as i fell behind on some payments which i believe have made me blacklisted. Is there any legal way around this credit check.

There's no way around a credit check! I work in business banking (opening the accounts and all the searches etc!) The only thing I would advise is apply for your business account with the bank you currently have your personal accounts with, (many banks offer the first year charge free!) their still going to have to do a credit search. Their rates may not be a competitive as other banks but, if you have a bad credit rating banks normally ask for copies of you last 6 months bank statements (if you bank with them already they'll have access to them) and if your own bank wont offer you an account then another bank probably wont!

After a year of keeping your account running smoothly (no missed payments etc!) then maybe you could shop about.

If you are having probs it maybe worth getting a copy of your credit file..

Good Luck

I have recently found www.myequifax.co.uk helpful in identifying problems with my credit rating.
