Do you ever read an article that leaves you shaking your head in amazement?
Whitby and Filey (both small towns) come under the umbrella of Scarborough Borough Council. Whenever they announce cost cutting measures, it seems to me that they only ever apply to Whitby & Filey and in the same newspaper there is usually an article announcing how many £millions Scarborough are spending on themselves for a new outdoor water park or something similar.
One recent proposal was that the world famous Whitby Goth weekend should be moved lock stock & barrel to Scarborough as it is "too big an event for Whitby."
They have also recently introduced residents parking permits for Whitby while the residents of Scarborough don't have to put up with such nonsense.
Anyway, I can feel myself heading towards a full blown rant so I will return to my original point.
Whitby and Filey are tourist towns. They no longer have a fishing industry to speak of.....just tourism.
This week Scarborough Borough Council have announced that to save money, they are closing down the tourist information offices...but only in Whitby & Filey.....not Scarborough.
Madness or what?
I shall now go lie down in a darkened room with a stiff drink.

Scarbough council is typical though, the only bit of the area that counts is "their" bit, sadly you can see this attitude repeated all over the country and at all levels of government.

That's a shame about Whitby. I imagine it's seen are the more prosperous town?
I make a pilgrimage up to Whitby at the beginning of November each year to eat all your fish and seafood.
Love the idea of moving the goth weekend away from the place where Dracula had his holiday home - it's missing the point a bit!

Morning MrsO....nice to see you posting and feisty..
Many, many years ago it was decided to change the beautiful doors on the main entrance to our library....a lovely old building.
Many of us didn't want this to happen.....we'd lost too many of our interesting features to a bonkers council already.....so there were protests.
Someone chained herself to the doors as part of the protest.
I still have the chains......does the Tourist Office have a suitable door and when are you free?
