Any ideas what I had?

Is there anyone out there with a knowledge of medicine or ailments? A few years ago I was travelling in Brazil when I developed an infection of some sort downstairs. I was having sex regularly with my boyfriend of the time. I was very itchy inside, slightly sore and had a lot of discharge. I went to an ObGyn there but I couldn't understand them or what they told me I had. I was prescribed what I presume was anti-biotics for 8 days - they made everything taste funny/metallicy and I was given a big tube of cream with which I had to fill these syringe/tube things and insert the cream into myself (the opening) once or twice a day until the cream was finished. It cleared up my problem. Do these symptoms or treatments sound familiar to anyone - could you suggest what this may have been that I had?

I have not being using any contraseptives with my boyfriend for the last four years and think I am unable to conceive - I am wondering if this could be in any way related to what happened to me in Brazil years ago.
