Hi, we were always told as children to leave small amounts of dog food as it is meat based,as are worms, beetles etc, and contain vitamins and minerals.
"Leave out foods like minced meat, tinned dog or cat food (not fish-based), crushed cat biscuits, or chopped boiled eggs. Specialist hedgehog food can also be bought from wild bird food suppliers. Never feed hedgehogs milk as it can cause diarrhoea; instead provide plain, fresh water in a shallow bowl."
I think, the recent mild, wet weather has stopped them hibernating, at least for a while, luckily there should also be a good supply of worms and slugs etc, available.
That purpose made hedgehog food, suggested my 'Maydup' looks to me, the best way to go.
Many thanks for all your answers, I have bought some small tins of beef dog food to leave out, hopefully that will build them up before it starts to freeze next week (yes I did open the tin and put it in a dish) sorry retrocop but I didn't have any vegebatles.
Sorry I didn't answer before, I had to change my browser to make it possible.
