New Bathroom
16 Answers
Morning everyone a bit early for questions but hopefully someone can help.
Has anyone had a new bathroom recently and how much did they pay. Had a quote this week for £6,300, by reputable local firm with excellent feedback. This includes absolutely everything, electric shower over bath, bath screen, heated towel rail, fitted units to give me storage space for cleaning materials, tiling and anything else you can think of including skip to take away debris. Does this seem a reasonable price for relatively small bathroom. Thanks for help everyone.

On the one hand £6.3k to revamp the whole of say ⅛th of your, what, £180k house?, seems not unreasonable; when you price it bit by bit it may not seem so justifiable.
I think you would do well to follow MM's advice, try to work out what is going to be spent on materials etc, and see whether what is left is reasonable in terms of how many are working on it for x days.

A lady asked me to have a look and see if I could fit grab rails in her bathroom I was totally amazed at the level of finish ... and very unsure if I should begin to damage the tiles.
Her husband had suffered a stroke recently and she wanted him to retain as much independence as possible. She asked me fif I could fit as many as needed, in every place I thought they should be.
Telling her that her tiles were the best I have ever seen, I said that the only way I would fit a grab rail was knowing that the fixing was 100% secure and that the tiles will have holes in them should she decide to remove the handrails in the future. This would not look good if she came to sell the apartment.
She then said she would have it re-tiled if need be ... I said it looked as though it had just been done. She said she had just had it done a few months ago ... I said it looked very expensive ... she said it wasn't ... only £52,000.
... I went ahead and drilled 40 holes in the tiles !
