Sight Test.
15 Answers
Had a sight test a few days ago, last one was about 18 months ago.
Although I did get the puffing air into the eyes, the test with the optician which lasted less than 10 minutes, was done entirely on the ‘chin on the rest and forehead against the bar’ with two “which is clearer, red or green” for each eye, and a “which line of letters can you read” for each eye, plus a card asking which size writing I could read.
There was no wearing the big frames whilst the optician slotted different lenses in.
Is this the norm now, or did I get an inferior test?

I had to have new specs and when they measured my eyes to how the lenses should be aligned in the frames, they used an iPad to take a photo of my face whilst I was wearing a glasses frame with 'targets' on it. I was a bit sceptical about that system and lo and behold, neither pair of glasses were right (had to peer through the top of the lens for longsight), so just be aware if they use that system on you.
Mine was at Specsavers, and like sddsddean, I also had the ipad with targets.
Wasn’t overly impressed, and although not relevant to my test, the young woman who did this had bitten nails with badly chipped nail polish. Can’t help thinking that if your hands are “on display”, they should look tidier than that!
Didn’t get the light, as per bhg481’s answer.

Here, in the U.S., my last exam a few months ago involved three machines… one of which was near and far corrections… it was an old fashioned farm house (green and red as I remember) at the end of a long lane… when the technician clicks the button, the farm house became blurred but then cleared… measuring something, obviously.
Still saw the optometrist, who, as usual for nearly 20 years explained everything and that I didn't need a correction tot he contacts I wear…. which are designed to correct astigmatism...

I use Tesco opticians and appear to get a very thorough test, I think.
Several "rest chin here" type tests, puffer test, a peripheral vision test (which I was not very good at) and after checking my actual vision, the optometrist spent some time examining the health of my eyes.
It seemed a very thorough test to me.
