I'm a fan of Lidl since ours opened a year or more ago. Can't get everything in there but its worth the effort for the great prices.

A few months back the bakery department was extended so they sell more fresh cakes and rolls.

Two weeks ago there were big changes going on. High fridges installed where there had been only regular ones. Everything changed around so people were having to hunt for things.

The cheap prices for fruit and veg were there, right inside the door....your in and away to trot off up and down the isles.

By the time we got to the checkout it had concerned me by the rise in prices on so many items, so noticeable from pre alterations....my bill definitely proved my thoughts.

Something to keep an eye on me thinks.

Meanwhile I note Morrisons have announced reductions on many everyday essentials to keep up with the other larger supermarkets.

I've noticed Aldi's prices are creeping up, too.

Thanks for the heads up. I suppose it was bound to happen after all the praises and accolades were given to Lidl and Aldi as top supermakets in the UK.
Most of my visits to Lidl are for good DIY power tools and accesories.

The quality of the fruit and veg in the two Aldi's I use has definitely gone down. No matter how careful I am selecting and storing them they just do not last.
I also dislike that fruit and veg are pre packaged.

I've noticed with Morrisons, when they first opened near me their veg stalls had all those fancy pipes pumping cold 'steam' all over the veg keeping it fresh but now it's all gone and the veg looks ragged and unattractive

I never get my red pointy peppers from Aldi now - they go soft in a couple of days and two oranges out of a pack of 6 went mouldy in a few days too. Shall stop getting fruit and veg there, although we love the meat, chicken and ham etc. Where have the (equivalent to) Activa yogurts gone?

Ann, the Greek-style Activa yoghurts are £1.20 for a pack of four at Tesco at the moment.

Thanks jno - will pop in Tescos but actually prefer the Aldi equivalent to the real thing!

I don't buy fruit,but I get veg at lidls/aldis. I get a 500gm pack of pointy peppers from lidls...and they last forever. Only about £1.59 I think.

In my experience Aldi fruit and veg is rubbish - rots in the fridge far too quickly. Lidl is much better quality and it lasts.

I agree with what is being said about Aldi. Prices are definitely rising and products getting smaller. Also many complaints about the freshness of their products, food off, covered in mould and rancid meat.

Of course their prices are rising, All supermarkets are the same. Don't think for one second they want to do you a favour, its all about killing off the competition then cranking up the prices.

I've never gotten mouldy or rancid meat...from *any* supermarket. "Off" chicken a few times from the tiny tesco I go to...(not the same though). Maybe it's the individual shop.
Is this the usual British tradition of knocking down anyone/thing that's become very successful?l?

Some time ago I bought some chicken joints from a huge Tesco 24-hour store. When I opened the pack the stench that pervaded the kitchen was horrendous (they were 3 days inside the "use by" date) - clearly very, very off. When I rang their customer line to complain, the only action I got was the price of the pack refunded. I now avoid Tesco like the plague.
