Fiesta auto problems (again!)

Recently posted about my 1994 Fiesta automatic as it was cutting out when slowing down. mechanic did diagnostic on it which showed nothing, he adjusted something on the gearbox as it was not changing gear smoothly. It has been ok, thought the problem was solved as had 2 weeks driving & no cutting out. However, 2 days in a row it has done it again, just cut out when stopping at junctions. Always starts first time afterwards but is getting rather annoying & frustrating! It had also been a little 'juddery' on both those days. Noticed that it had been raining on both days & wondered whether it was likely to be anything to do with that as the little car has never been particularly fond of the wet/damp. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

Wouldn't do any harm to go over the ignition system - anything electrical under the bonnet with a can of WD40. Just spray it everywhere when the engine is warmed up and everything is nice and dry. If the problem is due to a bit of dampness in the electrics this will help.

On older Fiesta's, there is a device called an anti-dieseling valve. it cuts off the fuel supply when the ignition is switched off and stops the engine running on (like a diesel). I say older: mine is a Mark 3 1990 and it has one: the engine is called an HCS engine, they may be fitted on newer models, and other engine types too

I had a lot of hassle with one of these, until I found I had knocked the connector off the carburettor! it was a cylindrical push-on connector, went onto a connector on the carb which looks like a screw thread.

probably worth a look for a bit of wire that goes nowhere, hanging around somewhere near the engione (almost certainly in a place thats not obvious!)

I spent ages tinkering with the idle speed and mixture, it did run ok for some of the time after fiddling but after a while it would not idel (ie cut out when you take your foot off the accelerator)
