He hosted a record request programme, Two-Way Family Favourites, for service people and their families on a Sunday morning and later went into television. At 96 he had a good innings.

I can remember hearing this programme when I was a small child and looking up place names on an atlas to find out where they were. RIP.

Oh no, another of the building blocks of my childhood has gone.

They reminded us on TV this morning that he was news anchor for the return of Apollo 13, and I remember being glued to the box for that.

I met him and his wife Jean way back in the late 80s in Combe Martin Devon. They were on holiday there and were just so very nice to talk to, easy going , friendly. I liked them both.
