Who invented the word 'Invention'?

The earliest recorded use of the word in English dates back to the 14th century, having existed earlier as 'invencion' in Old French. Both, however, are just a variation on the basic Latin verb 'invenire', meaning 'to discover/devise'. Sadly, you are never going to find out which individual Roman thought of it first!

I thought 'Necessity' was the mother of Invention.


Cant think who the father was, must have been an immaculate one.
