I'm enjoying this and managing to follow the plot (I don't normally like shows that flashback to an earlier time) but I can't understand why Maya is representing the lifer in the USA.

Can anyone help?

I don't recall this being explained yet, hc, but i'm guessing that she was introduced to the case by the young black activist that was murdered in the police cell. He mentioned the guy on death row in one of his speeches.

Judging the way the series is unfolding, i will assume all will be revealed in flashbacks. As for the "who's paying" question, hc, you may be over-thinking this a tad:-)

Oh and someone in america sued the makers of thiopentone in the UK in a UK court

I know it's frustrating to not know why this or that happened, but I'm sure as the series progresses we'll learn more.
