Another humiliating climb down for this Tory Government.

To quote Morgan :::: "This was about the government listening, she said, adding ministers understood top schools should retain the choice on whether to convert"

Oh yes, the Government listened all right, but only to its own Tory Councils who objected, not the rest of us.

What about the Barnet fiasco? I thought it was going to some judicial review. Many people were turned away to legally register their vote. Sounds like 3rd world politics.? Wrong polling registers at the stations!!!//

JR ? - we will have to wait a year or two

On the day - you have to find a judge in chambers ... swear an affidavit saying you hadnt been allowed to vote and apply for an order telling the returning officer of the polling station you should be registered at - to allow you too vote

was done a few years ago - with the lawyer saying we did it as an exercise and we dont expect very many people to do this

[well you did mention it]

There were only 2 By-Elections yesterday. Ogmore and Sheffield. Labour won both with huge majorities.
"it shows to me that they hadn't thought out the idea properly in the first place. "

@PP
if i ever make sense of your ramblings I'll let you know...

Naomi....I am certainly not complaining ! I am celebrating yet another climbdown by Dave and Co. This was a key part of their recent Budget !
Question Author
Gromit....my mistake ! But as you said, both lost by the Tories.
"It looks as if Khan may win, and obviously, I would be delighted if he does. "

Retro.....Labour did far from have a poor performance yesterday.

They won all three by-elections, are still the most popular Party in Wales
( and certainly more popular than the Tories ! ) and managed to hang on to a lot more Councils in England than they were predicted to do. It is also looking increasingly likely that they will have won the bid for London's Mayor.

Yes, they could have done better but just 12 months after an GE defeat, and after the Election of Corbyn ( by a landslide ) they have managed to do not so badly after all.

lol mikey, is that your Kezia Dugdale impression or your ...

From the Daily Torygraph:

// David Cameron has abandoned plans to introduce a new law to turn every school into an academy after a furious backlash from dozens of Conservative MPs.

The Government had been facing defeat over over moves to force every state school in England to become an independent academy, free from council control. //

Damage limitation pure and simple.

You are trying to persuade yourself that you are not an ersatz Welshman. Why would the London Mayor concern you?
Question Author
Retro.....the London Mayor is an important political post in Britain as a whole, and therefore its of interest. Anyway, I was born in London, so I'm not sure what point you are struggling but failing to make here ?
Are you avoiding commenting on the dismal performance of labour in Scotland?
apologies, retrocop, I meant 45-35%, the rest made up chiefly by LibDems and Greens and a bit of Love and Cannabis etc.
Don't know if you have seen it but there's a thread here that could do with your valuable contribution mikey

mikey4444 ///jno...I have reported that for you !///

How pathetic.
Diane Abbot on Any Questions saying council run schools are excellent. ( snigger )
I'm pleased that some very good schools will be spared enforced change. The whole idea was stupid and ill-thought-out - likely that monied interests were involved.

I can't help but feel that the Cons. have now abandoned almost every 'point of principle' that they have advanced, however Just look at their 'pledges' at the election. I despair, I really do.
//jno....I shall ignore the first post on here, but you have made a good point. //

Oh what an fing surprise. Jeez man are you really that stupid?
Question Author
Jourdain2....the Tories Budget plans are in tatters....first they had to abandon the attack on the disabled, a move largely brought about by the resignation of one of their most high-profile Ministers, and now this ill-conceived plan to force schools to change over to academies.

You are right to despair !

But what do our right-wingers have to say about this ? Nothing much, just the usual vituperative personal attacks, from the usual suspects !
Svejk, Diane Abbott - ever the hypocrite.
Hang on now, mikey. We might attack you personally but most of us can't even spell vituperative.
