Over the last few days I've received a scarf and a handbag from China which I haven't ordered and have no idea where they have come from. They're both from different companies / people and have my full contact details and a very old phone number on the address. It seems pretty harmless but I suspect there may be something more sinister going on....has anybody had a similar thing happen?

Yes. Check your credit card /bank statement to make sure you haven't been charged for them. It happened to me once - I couldn't work out the point as it seemed a random person was using my card details and getting stuff sent to me- but I got my money back from credit card company

If that happened to me, I would check to see if anybody has applied for credit against my address. http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/statutory-report.html It worth doing a credit search anyway - I have always done that when I have moved house so that I can check what is logged against the address

I was assuming they were addressed to ck1 (my name was used on mine) but if another name is used then yes, that could be it. But what's the point- unless they plan to come round and say "sorry I gave wrong address- can i have them please"

When buying from a new store online, sometimes the first orders have to be delivered to the cardholder address - until they decide that the purchaser is genuine. Then you can start changing the delivery address.

So there's a chance that somebody has your credit card details and is getting some low value items delivered to you, before they get some high value items delivered to themselves ...

Interesting about the validating address for a new store, I'll have to do a check on any weird transactions.

this happened to my DH once, he got a load of vitamins delivered. We thought they might be illegal drugs so took them to the police station. Never heard another thing about it and no ensuing credit card problems.

Same thing happened to me. Printed T Shirt arrived. Phoned the name of the firm on the invoice and they confirmed it was in my name so off to the bank and got it sorted but some of my money had been used for on line betting which I have never done. Money was returned by bank and new card issued.
