I went to make an appointment to see my GP said I wasn't in a hurry any time in the next week or so would be fine. We have 4 today.

4 TODAY!!!!! Seriously

I guess that I also misunderstood the OP; that's why I responded as I did yesterday.

I must be very lucky with my GP practice as I can always get a same day appointment so long as I don't specify the doctor. If I want to see my own GP I might have to wait 3 days.
