If the UK became a republic, what would it be called?
"The Republic of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" is a bit long-winded. Any other ideas?

The Republic of Ireland = Ireland
La Rpublique Franaise = France
La Repubblica Italiana = Italy
The British Republic = Britain
One problem could be that "The British Isles" includes the whole of the island of Ireland.
Steve you say the component parts of the UK are not states but one definition of a state is, "an organized political community or area forming part of a federal republic."
The official name of what I have always known as the Republic of Ireland is Ireland I was suprised to discover recently. I will try to find the link if anyone is bothered.
Steve You state that it may include the whole of Ireland.
Did you know that it would not include the Isle of Man, which does not belong to the UK and is not a member of the European Union.
If GB became a Blair Republic would the Isle of Man be bigger enough to take all the immigrants from England ect?
I wonder how they treat illegal immigrants from the "mainland"
