Memory Sticks

Hi there computer techie ABers .... I've just purchased one of those double port memory sticks, so I can download pictures which I've taken on my mini i.pad to my desk top computer (in an effort to free up some much needed storage space on the mini i.pad. Thing is - and here I lay myself open to being called "thickie", I don't quite know how to use it.

I just emailed all my photos then saved them on computer.

Never had one but don't you just plug them into your iPad, use some kind of app to move your files over to it, then plug it into your PC to move them to your hard drive ?
