Processing .jpg Image Files = Picture Quality Degrades

I have generally image files as .png & .tif, both of which in uncompressed format suffer no loss and no degradation. I am keen to process a number of .jpg image files, which would result in renewed loss of quality.
_Can one do a work-around by reading a .jpg file and immediately save as one of the two aforementioned lossless formats, .tif say? Thereafter, processing this new .tif image should theoretically always remain lossless in quality/degradation. Thank you, in the hope that all this is correct!

Another way is to 'work' on a copy of the original. You would have to open/close a jpeg many times to notice any degradation. You can also convert a copy of the original jpeg into tiff format and use that (this is what I normally do).

SlackA_Of course, I never thought of that: simply using Explorer to create a copy of the file X.jpg = X0.jpg, then, using MS Paint save X0.jpg as X0.tif or X0.png would crack it. Thank you.
