poem?

This is a long shot, somethin I've been lookin for, for years! When I was in primary school (long time ago) well, twenty somethin yrs ago, and our teacher read out a poem to which I no not the title or author, all I can remember is that it was about an old brown horse, also remember it was sad! Any ideas?? Told you it was a loooong shot.

we used the words So Long Kemosabe on the front of my dad's funeral order of service last year.

Your name just seemed similar but Kemosabe means trusty Scout.

It isnt nicholas nye, but thank you for sharing it with me as it is too a beautiful poem. And my name is an adapted form of kemosabe, my dad knows that word, but as my name is Kim, he adapted it for me!!
