When winter comes around, if there is a prolonged cold snap, do try to keep a section of the surface from staying frozen. Some of my brethren may be taking their seasonal rest at the bottom of the pond and could otherwise run out of oxygen. Your robin will appreciate the availability of a drink too!

Wonderful! I really loved my pond and miss it now I've moved. Loved getting the frogspawn and then watching for the tadpoles to appear.

I'd love to have a pond, but my garden is way too small. I love the way robins like to oversee what's going on !

Patsy, The Robins been around for a while, but he seems much happier now and he seemed to be the first visitor this morning.

Jambutty, I'm sure even a very small pool can be a great benefit to wildlife, my one only holds 150 liters of water.
I also have a birdbath with pebbles in and the wood pigeons think they own it.

At the moment I'm re-modeling my rockery which includes the filter and cascade for the pond and despite looking like a bowl of pea soup everything in the pond seems to be flourishing,the fish are basking in the sun and so is our newt,loads of water beetles and insects and the birds are often round and about the shallows.It's amazing where they come from I remember when we set it away about 15 yrs ago it seemed like one day there was nothing in it but a few plants ands some goldies and the next week it was full of life.

Remember to cat-proof the pond, they are evil little creatures that are quite devious and inventive. Very evil creatures.

Yes Tilly, all dug with my own fair hand, and the ground was like flipping concrete!
Maybe when its all settled in a bit, I'll send a photo, if I can figure it out how to do it.
