Right I'm going on holiday on Tuesday in a caravan on the Yorkshire coast
Now I know I've been a bore but I intend to have a look around and maybe invest I one
I am presuming that if I get one dated 2003 and pay approx £11k that would mean I could expect to keep it for about 12 years
I don't mind losing approx £1,000 per year as you'd expect that
Am I correct?

TIA

That seems to be a good idea Ric.ror.....it will provide you with holidays for many years !

But choose your site carefully. Most sites are only open 10 months of the year. Mine used to be open until Jan 6, so I was able to spend Xmas and New Year there, which I loved. But not now.

Once you have the 'van, you will find yourselves using it much more than you thought. Stay in a rented 'van, on the site of your choice first, and see if its the correct one for you.

Personally, I don't like too many people and an on-site Club is definitely not my kind of thing, but it may be different for you. Also, perhaps choose a site that is within a reasonable travelling distance from your home, so you can pop down for the weekend, at a moments notice. Mine is in Cornwall, which I dearly love but its about 4 hours drive away.
Ric.ror, I could help you out here with a cracking 28 footer in EX condition, I do not want to advertise on here, is there a way you can get in contact with me? this van is in LLandudno. I hope I am within the rules here.
Question Author
I really wanted one on sight on the North Yorkshire coast but thanks for the offer
Anyone interested in TWR's offer?
I think it's against the rules to advertise on here Ric.
Question Author
Well first place I looked is eBay
So you might want to look there
Unless anyone has any other suggestions

Check the Site Rules some stipulate a maximum age a caravan can be before you have to get rid.
And check that they allow dogs ( if you have one ! )
Question Author
Well there is NO WAY I'd buy one with a former dog owner
I was only in a car for 20 mins the other day and I CD-R out wheezy
Strange as I was brought up with a dog and I love them
Question Author
CD-R = came
We had one on a park in Lincolnshire and the contract stated that you had to offer the van for sale to the park owners first of all and of course they offered a low price. If you did not take up their offer than you had to remove it from the site at your own expense and quickly. Read any rules and contracts very carefully as there is usually a clause about the age of the vans allowed on the parks. We wanted to build decking around ours but that was only possible if the park employed their own workman, again at an unreasonable price. Be careful and you should have a great time.

Forget it all
My mother has decided she does not want to be left on her own (for 4 days - 2 of them when she visits a day centre)
So I'm not going now
But that's a whole new different story ;-((
Ric..you should go..your mum will be fine and you have YOUR life to live....just go
Question Author
MM - my mum is 89 and whilst not suffering from Alzheimer's she does get confused
Anyway I am going but will come back on Thursday instead of Friday - she's in day care tomorrow anyway
I have just had a blazing row with her about it all
She says I shouldn't have changed my plans because of her!!!!
I damned if I do .......,,..
If not changing your plans would have made you feel a bit rubbish then you did the right thing.
Sounds like your Mum's confusion is causing her fear - do what you feel is right for now Ric.

The thing is I have two brothers that call around at the VERY most once a month
My own sons are better than them but I'm going with one son and the other has two little ones
I've even left my key in the key safe which she would hate me doing if she knew- just in case she decides to press the button round her neck
