I'm so sure of all three supplied letters, but the answer being as simple as 'lenses' feels incorrect. Any suggestions?

It appears to be the typical style for Geoscientist, which is mostly science questions (particularly geology/geography/paleontology related questions) and some more general knowledge/word play.

Word play is rare but not uncommon (eg 15a French mixture, much found in Anglesey, for example (7) MELANGE).

It does also occasionally have very simplistic seeming answers too (eg 7d Any granitic rock (9) GRANITOID) so I'm not totally ruling out LENSES/LENSED, it just seems wrong.

Thanks. It seems hard to follow that article after a hard day's work, but it seems a little odd to have lens (singular) in the clue

I think we are overall in agreement with lenses, even if the clue implying a singular answer is off-putting. Thank you Mamyalynne for providing links to help! If I wasn't so sure of the given letters, I would have leaned towards lentic.
