Just a query. I am taking 8 x 5mg of these a day all at once. I read the leaflet inside which says take first thing with or after food. Why isn't there a single tablet that does the same thing? Thanks!

Well I think as it is often given in a tapering dose method it would mean manufacturing many different strengths and sizes - so far simpler to do it in multiples of a smaller dose.

I have to give my boy cat 2 x 1mg tablets each day which isn't the perfect dose but the vet only has 1mg and 5mg tablets. They are very cheap tablets but surely they can supply them in other doses.

If it was profitable to manufacture larger doses......they would, but the conditions that require larger doses are unusual.

Just a hunch, but I bet you are being given 40 mgms in one go because you have a facial paralysis (Bell's Palsy).....just a guess.

Just the tail end of a chest infection Mamya, taking them along with 3 x 500mg Amoxycillin.

I pay less than £10 for about 100 of the 1mg tablets. Getting them down the little barsteward's throat is the stressful bit.

I'm currently on a course and started on 30g for a week, then down to 25g for a week and so on till 5g then stop. Makes it easier to just reduce l tablet per week instead of having different doses of tablets.

It is normal to taper off these tablets so it is practical to prescribe them like that to make it easier to reduce the dose one or two tablets at a time.
