Re- Upholstering An Old Chair

I have an old chair - one that's suitable for the elderly
Anyone any idea how much it would cost recover?

Yes, but I went to evening classes in upholstery, with a similar old chair - had a great time, made friends and now have a really classy looking chair.

In the meantime you can probably get a pretty good one from a charity shop to fill the gap.

Think it would depend very much on the time involved and the material used. The old chair is probably much sturdier than anything you could buy today and it would be a one off just for you. Shop around.

At a guess I would say anything between two and five hundred pounds. It all depends on the actual shape and size of the chair, the material used and whether the stuffing needs replacing. If the stuffing of the present chair is Not fire resistant it will be replaced by the upholsterer.

Unless it's an antique chair, or one with particular affection to you, it could be a very costly matter.

All that I have said is on the assumption that you mean 're-upholster' as being different from made to measure 'loose covering'.
