I have been told that I have a good suggestion ~ what would you think about having a system with IDs in the same way sites like ebay have...your user ID can be changed (but only every 90 days) and your old user ID can be checked though an icon next to your ID.

It has come to my attention that some greenies are being questioned regarding their IDs and it can make them feel rather uncomfortable ~ especially if they are being accused of being a nasty type of user!

Hope this makes sense :o)

this is the sort of solution that maybe will protect newbies from suspicion and also avoid the type of abuse that went on last night, where one newbie, Jonathan something, thought that paedophiles must be visitors to this site. Well done, excellent. (lol i sound like my old chemistry teacher!)

It didn't make sense to me I'm afraid, not your doing- it's mine, i'm dim. Can you explain again, but this time speak slowly and with words of only one sylable?

Thanks :-)

Hmmmm BOO that might be a toughie..

Basically, a facility for people to look up previous IDs connected to an ID. So if you changed yours, it would say something like I~DUNNO with a little icon next to it. By clicking on the icon we could see that you were previously BOO.

If the icon isn't possible, then just a way to find out previous IDs would be good.

Sorry if this explanation is just as bad as the last ;o)

Ahhhh yeah

Did ya hear that penny drop??? lol

Good idea!! Keep 'em coming :-)

Pippa that is a good suggestion.

When I first started using AB they didn't have such thing as greenies. I think ED had to introduce this because of the multiple usernames. Also, just from my experience of AB, I found it by googling for something to do with a song, I was directed to this site. I only ever used to go on Film&TV and Music, it took me a while before I ventured into any other topics.

I think this is why people are suspicious of B&S greenies, they always seem to know alot more about certain people on there.

It's deafening :o)

Why would users wish to change their ID?

Why enable them to change it four times per year?

This will not alleviate the problem of trolls using multiple IDs and will only add to the confusion if UserA suddenly becomes UserB.
Question Author

I wasn't really suggesting that users should be allowed to change their IDs four times a year ~ that is what ebay allows, so I was using it as an example.

I would like to be able to keep track of it all, although of course there is more to life..

there have been a few this last week or so that have requested a name change from the ed, when u register it isn't always the name you really want that u register with, if you want to change it why not, but to identify u as not a newbie just a greenie, the original ID could be available smewhere.

Well I for one have never hid from the fact that I used to be Liverpoollou, but because of me being too honest with my username I got slagged off alot of the time, so I wrote to Ed and asked first to be removed from the site, but she sent a nice e-mail back saying, you can keep the same e-mail address but with a different username.

It seems to me that it shouldn't be made easier to change your ID; we should keep to the current procedure of making a request to ABEd.

Genuine requests for ID changes appear to be for the very reason of distancing yourself from the original ID, so why have it follow you around?

However there is no reason why a changed ID need be green like a newbie. It could quite easily be blue or any other colour.

it doesn't really matter who someone is or used to be though does it - if a question appears genuine then answer it and ignore the users that appear to be trolling - simple... isn't it? no need to change colours or show profiles all surely
then people would just join with a brand new hotmail account and then come on as a newbie, so it wouldn't stop anyone who really wished to be anonymous

Good point joko ~ that would indeed be a problem & it's one I had also thought about.

Tough one I guess..back to the drawing board!
