//His lawyer said “There is a strong humanitarian case that it would be better for him on health grounds to be incarcerated there.

"It is also extremely unfair his family is not able to visit him in the United States.//

Maybe andy should have put 'unduly punished'
Haggis, because no one else would be stupid enough to listen. Plus I suspect we will find there is legal aid funded by the tax payer in there somewhere.
If he was imprisoned in the UK his wife and children could visit him.

My opinion though is I'm glad he's locked up in the US...their prisons look scary!

And Ludwig is right...he's punished his family, not the law.

ummmm, //What are the chances of any of them being allowed in the US? //

Very little I should think - but who cares? Not me.

Can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Frankly my dear!
I am not entirely sure what jurisdiction the ECHR has over the US. And given how hard they fought to get him over there, I cant see the American Govt giving him up to a "soft" prison over here. Crying shame of course.

As for the chances of his family being allowed to visit - lololololol. Out of his 8 kids, 1 has a conviction for fraud, 1 has a conviction in Yemen for planning a bombing campaign, 1 has a conviction for violent disorder, 1 has a conviction for armed robbery and possession of an illegal firearm. I cant see any of them being let into the US!

And that^ doesn't include his daughter in law who is also in prison.
Ludwig - //andy-h // They are being penalised for his crimes. //

No they aren't. They are suffering as a result of his crimes, which is a different thing altogether. //

You are absolutely right - I stand corrected.
youngmafbog - ////His family are innocent They are being penalised for his crimes//

So from what you are saying we should not incarcarate, fine or issue community service to anyone as their families will be penalized for the crime?

Jeeez, give me strength. //

I am delighted that you performed true to the correct procedure - before reading a post, misunderstanding it, replying to what you thought it said, while ignoring what it did say, you must preface your post with the word 'So ...'

The reason why I did not say that " ...we should not incarcarate, fine or issue community service to anyone as their families will be penalized for the crime?" is because that is not my view.

The point is not the punishment, with which the lawyer takes no issue (and neither to be clear, do I) - the point is the location of the punishment.

The lawyer is putting forward a view that Mr Hamza's family are suffering because they cannot visit him, and there is a humanitarian case for re-locating him to the UK, where his family could visit.

The incarceration of Mr Hamza, which is his just punishment, is not affected.
ummmm - //Well I don't believe Andy is saying he shouldn't get the punishment he deserved but it just means that his wife and kids can never visit him. //

Indeed, I wasn't saying that, you are quite correct.
ummmm - //I also agree with Ludwig. //

As do I.
Quite frankly, I couldn't give a stuff about him or his family !

andy-hughes, // The lawyer is putting forward a view that Mr Hamza's family are suffering because they cannot visit him, and there is a humanitarian case for re-locating him to the UK, where his family could visit. //

We know what the lawyer is saying.

// The incarceration of Mr Hamza, which is his just punishment, is not affected. //

It will be if he's moved to a 'softer' British prison. He'll certainly have an easier life.
Whatever the lawyers are saying in reality the chance of the USA allowing him out or his family in are a big fat ZERO!
