The NEC in Birmingham is, this weekend, hosting a convention celebrating 50 years of Star Trek. Is anyone going – or would you if you could – or do you think it’s all a bit daft?

Such fun! I’d love to go – but I can’t.

I could never see the appeal myself but I don't think it's daft. The trekkies always seem to have fun.
I certainly would if I could...went to the expo on London many many years ago and loved it
I've never been and probably never will go but I always thought that said more about me being a boring so-and-so.
I'd go !!!
It does seem like fun. I loved Star trek as a teenager and I can understand why the programme has so many devoted followers.

I can't go, unfortunately, as I have lost my Mr Spock, son of Sarek, ears.
Captain Kirk himself will be there too, unless he's beamed elsewhere:-

" or do you think its all a bit daft"? not as daft as the lunatics that had a party conference there last week.

last week the NEC was host to the International Doll's House Show:-

what makes them lunatics, gulliver?

William Shatner was on Breakfast TV on Friday He's 85, but that is hard to believe: sharp, witty, twinkly-eyed and (probably not entirely naturally) young looking and had the perfect response to the studio presenter who tried stupidly to get him to do some "Beam me up Mr Scott/Warp Factor 4 Mr Sulu" lines "for us".
I'd say he'd be worth the admission fee (if there is one, probably not) alone
And would make up for the unease perhaps at bumping into a "trekkie" which might be rather alarming.
^ loved the wonderful william shatner's reply to the question 'what makes star trek still popular after fifty years?' ... 'me'
Yes,I wouldn't have minded going as I am an enterprising sort :o)
Well, you could boldly go, AG.

It wasn't free:-

3 Day Ticket £49
Weekend Ticket £39
1 Day Ticket (Sat or Sun) £29
I have never liked Star Trek, I would go to anything like it.
Of course it's daft, but it's "fun daft" & does no-one any harm. I'm a huge fan of the Trek Universe & I'd love to go but can't, unfortunately.
I actually managed to recognise eight of the people in the first photo.

Star Trek is fun (as is Stargate and Stargate Atlantis)
