I am researching some of my ancestors who emigrated to Australia in the 1920's. Does anyone have any idea how long the journey would take, and what third class conditions would be like? I am imagining that it would not be good, especially for two young women with a two year old child, unaccompanied by their husbands who had sailed the previous year. If anyone has any information or even links that they could let me have I would be grateful.
not too long, they'd had steamships on the run for years (and had them for another 40 years till jumbo jets took over) and conditions would have been reasonably good, it wasn't like going steerage in the 1800s.
Have a hunt through the newspapers on Trove to see if you can find any mention of them or their ship
