If the UK ever needed to bring back National Sevice, would all the 18/20 years of age, immigrant men be called up , or would they leave the uk in their droves, seems like a good idea to me.

It was in response to the OP who had published a title 'Just a thought'.

I'll try to remember to be more clear and type slower in future.
Said "immigrants" have fled a war zone, so we should now prepare to send them in to another?
What about the unemployed Brits, those who choose not to work; the benefit swindlers; the lazy people who choose not to contribute to the country that affords them some form of living - can they go instead?
Oh no. Leave the wee dears in bed, being a benefit scrounger is hard work .!!!!
Why should our armed forces have the lazy and the benefits cheats forced on them?
I do not think a conscripted force is the best way to go....
//Why should our armed forces have the lazy and the benefits cheats forced on them? //

They would have to become "un-lazy" very quickly. They could return with a greater appreciation of the opportunity/potential that living in this country gives.
One volunteer is worth ten pressed men
I don't think so, jd. They'd sue the government for stress, imagined injuries or anything else they could dream up.
and go out the other end as fit thugs!!
I quite agree hc4361
Lets send all the professional men and women, those who work hard, graft and obey the law..... No hang on that doesn't seem fair either...?
Good job this is hypothetical and for now we have enough brave soldiers who want to make a difference.

/// One volunteer is worth ten pressed men ///

If I was surrounded by ten of the enemy, I know who I would like beside me, and it wouldn't be the one volunteer.
//would all the 18/20 years of age, immigrant men be called up //

unlikely. immigrants of that age - and indeed up to the age of 38, I'm told - are considered by our government to be children, so would be exempt.
^got to snigger at that :-)
