What are the best ones, in order? Are there any IM Banks ones for normal people?

For me....Walking on Glass, Wasp Factory, Complicity.

Banks says 'Bridge' is his best. WTF?

I am a big fan of both his fiction and sci-fi writings.

Wasp Factory, Canal Dreams, Crow Road and Whit I think are my favourite non scifi fiction of his, and Use of Weapons, The Player of Games, Excession and Against a Dark Background are probably my fave Sci Fi stuff of his, although I like all of em :)

Of all his works though, I think i would agree with you.. The Bridge made the least impact on me.

And for great opening lines of novels, you have to go a long way to beat the opening of Crow Road.... To paraphrase "The day my Grandma exploded" :)
