I think Chris that perhaps I had better change the name. It was my belief that to Ogle was merely to look without any particular desire. Shows how innocent I am.

Sorry for not responding to the posts above earlier; I've been out shopping.

It seems (from my link), Rockroad, that you're not alone. There are doofers (or doofahs) all over the country.

My mother had a button box, Mamyalynne, but it looked like this

(You could guarantee though that, however hard you searched, there was never a button which matched the one you'd just lost from a garment!

Danny: A word expert like you really ought to have a more imaginative name for the thing. Can't you cobble something together from a bit of Latin and Ancient Greek, for example?
