Hi there. One of my girls has got chicken pox but only a mild case, thank goodness. Thing is, we're supposed to be having a big father's day BBQ tomorrow and while i think all the guests have had chickrn pox I don't know if they could get shingles from my girl. One of the sites I looked at says you get shingles from a re-occurance of your own c.p.virus not somebody elses but other sites said differently.

I don't want to give anyone shingles for father's day - I'm sure they'd rather have socks! Any advice, please?

if poss let people know before they come round then they cab make a decision?..i'm not sure if c-pox can tigger shingles ot not?

hope your bbq still goes ok!!
Shingles is a flare up of the persons own virus laying dormant in the body. You cannot catch the virus twice, therefore the answer is no, your daughter cannot give anyone shingles. She can only pass on chickenpox to those who have never had it.
my 2 children recently had chicken pox, most of my family were ok with this, but my brother suffered with shingles about 12 years ago and would not come near my kids in fear of getting it again??
Its a bigger risk for anyone who is pregnant - they should stay away, but you can't catch shingles from someone else's chickenpox

Thanks everyone. It's pouring with rain today so that's taken care of the BBQ. I've spoken to everyone who was going to be spending the day with us and my grandparents have decided not to take the risk. We'll still see my parents though.

I was wrong about it being a mild case - the poor girl has erupted overnight and now looks like she has been dipped in calamine lotion. So far her sister remains spot free and quite smug that she hasn't got ' chicken pops'

Thanks again.
