As I see it why pay for speedy boarding. Is it just to get your b** onto a seat in the first couple of rows. Seats are allocated at checkin. So you could be choosing a seat already allocated to someone else. Can someone throw some light on this. TIA
But ... you are guaranteed that your carry-on luggage will have space in the plane (not be shifted to the hold) and (on easyjet) are allowed a second 'small' bag for laptop etc.
Speedy boarding OR Priority boarding is essential.
If you are not first on, it may well be that you have booked seats at the front but by the time you board, the overhead lockers are full and you have to put your hand luggage at the back or middle of the aeroplane.
Unless they board by rows.
I always choose speedy boarding and choose my seat.....but never sit in the front rows.
The way I travel I can have everything I need with me and not in the hold.....my heavy bins and cameras can go in my extra bag.....and I don't have any faffing about.....it suits me very well.
I have often thought they should line the "live cargo" up in row order & march them on, sqad - would have to be more efficient than the current rabble.
But I agree - SB or PB is worth paying for if you want your hand luggage near you.
I always have to buy an extra-legroom seat - I just don't fold into a normal one - so get PB or SB thrown in. Saves time at bag-drop too, if you are checking-in a hold case.

With some airlines, maybe, but with most, you can book your seats in advance. On at least some flights I've been on, certain seats were available ONLY to passengers who also booked speedy boarding.
