I think I have told you that both next door neighbours smoke constantly pretty much 20 hours a day (they don't sleep too well) but the smoke seeps into me.
My friend called in last Wednesday and she smokes and I allow her to do so. However, even when she was smoking (I didn't say to friend) but still I could smell neighbours' smoke again.
Anyway cutting a long story short - next door neighbour has told me her and hubby haven't bought cigs in about 8 months but now use roll-ups.
She told me the roll-ups are so skinny and her and hubby are doing very well along with the vapour pipes. She is now suffering from COPD.
Is she kidding herself - as I as non-smoker think the roll-ups are far far stronger. Any opinions would be welcome as I could understand the seeping smoke to me.
Ummm...of course I understand addiction ! But there are all sorts of ways to help people to quite smoking these days, then there were many years ago, when all my brothers, and our Dad gave up. My Mum didn't and died of lung cancer at the early age of 63, and she died very slowly and painfully.
The point I am making is that if this woman has been diagnosed with something as serious as COPD, I am surprised that she can physically still be able to smoke, rather than just want to.
I suppose continuing to smoke despite its ill-effects can in many ways be compared to continuing to eat unhealthily despite being grossly overweight and suffering the resultant diabetes and associated health problems. Like Oscar Wilde, many can resist everything except temptation - and that doesn't just apply to smokers.
Difference with overeaters and smokers is that you have to eat to live you don't have to smoke to live.....
Unless your addiction is so great that is what your brain is telling you.
I have been a smoker and an overeater, the smoking whilst not huge I smoked 10 a day I thoroughly enjoyed especially whilst driving! Last year I came down with full blown flu and just couldn't face smoking I managed to break that habbit as I couldn't drive for over 3 weeks due to coughing.
Saying that there is at least one occasion a week where I could murder for a cigarette but I now pick up my knitting instead!
If only overeating was so easy - for that I am basically getting rid of my stomach!
So I presume that is what Ummm is saying Mikey when she says you don't understand addiction.
Yes, I believe over eating is an addiction and not being able to lose the weight is a similar lack of will power that some smokers possess. Although I do understand that losing weight involves much more time and is probably a bit soul destroying having to wait to see results.
Well to conclude in a good way - I am going to be very accepting of the above cos you know what it could be worse - I could have boom boom boom of bass music coming through the walls and for that I am truly grateful.
No witchcraft or black magic involved, just gaps and draughts, usually under the floorboards.
You may notice it's worse when the wind's from a particular direction like we do with our delightful cave dwellers through the wall.
It's been a lot less obvious since new flooring and skirting was installed.
## So I will asking my Doc next week when I see him. But the very thought of still smoking, while having COPD would be unthinkable. ##
Mikey, I have had COPD for 2 years through smoking all my life, but quit as soon as I knew, and use e-cigs which help tremendously.
I have to take 3 different inhalers a day + tablets, and have to be careful of not catching a cold, infection etc, or it ends up I have to go into hospital, which I have had too 3 times in the past year.
I once had neighbours who all smoked (three of them) and yes, I could smell tobacco smoke in my front room from time to time and I guessed it was coming from next door (terraced house).
Don't know who said and it doesn't matter but believe me if you are in a terraced house you certainly do get secondary smoke . My bedroom stinks plus she stays up to all hours so there's no respite , what with the TV as well .
Roll ups are just as strong , the only bonus with them is they go out quicker if you don't puff on them .
