I haven't 'let the train take the strain' for years but am planning a trip to shrewsbury (from stoke) sometime next week. Have been on national rail website and the price its quoting me is £18.40.
If I booked the tickets on the day at stoke station would it be the same price or is it cheaper to book via internet?
Thanks.
I can't be certain if it will help but try the TrainSplit website which may come up with considerable savings. I can't input the details on the website because only you know the day and times you want to travel.
In my extensive experience I find that the only time online is cheaper is special offers, or booking "Advance" which ties you down to a specific train - this is too restrictive for me.
Listened to train prices being discussed on the radio. They were talking about "split tickets" ie breaking your journey into segments and buying singles for each part. Works providing the train you're on actually stops at the station. Haven't tried this myself so don't take my word for it.
