I would agree with Eddie51. The only involvement I’ve ever had in relation to an insurance claim was a solicitor advising me to accept a 50:50 offer from the other insurance party. If I was ever involved in an insurance claim concerning a personal injury claim – I’m sure there are loads of ambulance chasers who’d be willing to help (probably more so than any appointed by an insurance company).
I do pay for it on my motorbike insurance - there is such a (relatively) high chance of being the innocent victim of an idiot that it seems worthwhile.
I don't bother on the car insurance, for the reasons others have given.
