i have just paid a lot of money to have fence panels put in our garden which joins the neigbours garden. i have treated them before hand and my neigbour now says she wants to paint them green which i disagree with, as the will run in to our side of the panel(we replaced them because they run all down our side previously)and they looked a mess. can anyone give me any advice.

I used to live next door to some one like this, I moved rather than getting a criminal record. How long does it take to establish which is the best side of two squares of trellis? You'd be surprised! When you find yourself doing wee things to irritate them it is time to move on - I did sell the house to some lovely people! Spread the love!
its your property, so you decide.
i paint my fence once a year why dont you tell them to wait until you treat it again... they paint their side then you paint your side, if they have any run down their side the can touch it up with a small brush.

insist that they mask off your side completely and fill the gaps before they paint and that if any paint does get on your side they must come and correct it.

or tell her you will paint it yourself if she provides the paint and masking tape and brushes. may be a bit of work but at least you can be sure of the job

why not give her back the original fence, if you still have it, and she could erect it on her side? that way you can both do as you please with your fences

If it is definately your fence (as in the land registary entry confirms you are responsible) then they have no right to paint it and you can insist they don't.

However, in the interests of not falling out with them (not advisable if you help it) then the above suggestions are wise.

It depends how awkward or not you want to be.

If the fence is completely on your side of the boundary, and if it's your fence I would expect it to be, then the neighbours have no right to touch it. It would be trespass. If they paint it, against your wishes, that would be criminal damage.
So it depends on how insistent you want to be. You have every right to stop them doing anything to it, if you wish.
A further suggestion, if you don't want them messing up your fence and they don't like it, why don't they put their own fence up,on their side of the boundary, then they can do as they wish with that.

Hi

Panel fencing needs some sort of preservative on - otherwise it dries out and rots. Why not compromise and come up with a colour you both like? Green is not a bad idea - get some nice climbing plants - Clematis and such - will look great on green - but not bright green - panels

chuffy

well i would simply take out the panels tell your neighbours to buy some and then tell then you want to paint your pink.
