Found a great game in the playstore - Cat fishing UK - which has kept our puss mesmerised. He now recognises the sounds and comes running when I start it. Purrhaps your feline friend might like it too?

My lot tend to ignore anything which is designed for cats and make their own fun with anything of mine that's easily damaged! (Although, as this would give them to chance to destroy my tablet, they might actually enjoy it!)

Yes, that's the one. Simple but effective. Not recommended if you have a plastic screen protector on!
