6-8 cloves garlic
pepper
basil
1 glass dry white wine
onion
Cut 6-8 holes into the joint just big enough to fit a clove of garlic. Put a garlic
clove (peeled) into each hole. Rub outside with black pepper and basil. Pour dry white wine in the bottom of the Crock Pot. Place roast in and put slices or wedges of onion on top and around the roast. Cover and cook on low all day or until done.
If you like you can also place potatoes and carrots in the bottom of the Crockpot as well cut into chunks.
A tip to make it look more appetising is to brown it off first in a pan on the hob otherwise it looks pale and uninteresting. .
The healthy and no risk rule is never to defrost with heat. You're taking a risk defrosting in a slow cook pot or microwave, and an even bigger one if you do it with poultry.
Any joint, once defrosted can be cooked in the slow cooker and ham/pork is one of the best, but as shaneystar2 says, no crackling - what a shame!!
I cook all my meat in the slow cooker too....but it HAS to be defrosted.
Add a glass or two of white wine, some garlic cloves, a light spread of mustard, some fresh thyme, a squeeze of runny honey, a large knob of butter and a tin of sliced peaches.
The peaches (drained) can be placed on top of the pork and during cooking, basted with the butter, wine and honey. They will caramelise and taste gorgeous.
